Since 2021, we have been counting our carbon emissions with EKOS and offsetting 20% more than we emit in order to be accredited climate positive.
We have also been focused on reducing our carbon emissions and we are pleased to announce that since we started our measurements, we have reduced the carbon intensity of our operations by 91%, down to 0.58 tCOe2 per 100 guests (metric tonnes of greenhouse gases per 100 guests). We have also held our total emissions down to less than 5 tCoe2 for our whole business despite tripling in size over the last 3 years.
We have achieved this by investing in Mercedes evans – we started with buying the first one in the country last year and have now bought a second with a third one planned. This means when our guests go touring with us, they will most likely do it in an electric vehicle with no emissions.
Over the next few years we are planning to reduce the carbon intensity of our operations by a further 10% again annually by continuing to invest in electric fleet vehicles as we grow.
It’s fantastic for us to know we can take our guests out on tour without any harmful emissions and its great to know that our carbon credits are going towards native reforestation projects in NZ – all part of our commitment to regenerative tourism and seeking to enhance rather than harm the environment through our activities.
